PRESS RELEASE

Washington, October 2, 2026 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Her Excellency Mrs. Raina Forbin, participated in the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the American Hemisphere dedicated to the situation in Nicaragua, held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS).

In her remarks, Foreign Minister Forbin reaffirmed Haiti's commitment to the principles of the Inter-American system, particularly democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and respect for the sovereignty of states.

While underscoring the concerns raised by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights' report on the situation in Nicaragua, she advocated for constructive dialogue and respect for the international commitments freely undertaken by states.

Haiti also expressed its support for the creation of a Ministerial Monitoring Group tasked with supporting dialogue efforts and evaluating progress. The Minister urged member states to speak with one clear and united voice to defend democracy, fundamental freedoms, and hemispheric stability. Referring to Haiti's experience, currently undergoing an electoral process, she reiterated that regional solidarity must be exercised while respecting sovereignty, international law, and democratic principles.

Minister Raina Forbin reaffirmed Haiti's unwavering commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, and the pursuit of negotiated solutions in service of peace and prosperity for the peoples of the Americas. Her Excellency Ms. Raina Forbin took this opportunity to express, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Haiti and the Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the Haitian people's gratitude to the OAS member states for their support of the renewal of the mandate and the full deployment of the Gang Repression Force, while also noting that such regional solidarity plays a crucial role in the efforts to restore security and stability in Haiti.
